Wait until after nesting season to remove vegetation at Jessie Street Marsh!
This petition had 88 supporters
Jessie Street Marsh is a neglected piece of land in Santa Cruz. It has the potential to be a beautiful piece of habitat for migratory birds. It was slated to be restored as mitigation for the Neary Lagoon Wastewater Treatment plant however the restoration never happened. This year vegetation removal may happen as early as June 20th, which is still during nesting season. This will disrupt nesting birds. Normally the vegetation removal work happens in fall. Please ask the city to wait to do this work until fall to give birds a chance to raise their young! Also vegetation management should be supervised by a qualified biologist and be limited to legitimate restoration actions as described in the Jessie Street Marsh management plan!
