The Real Food Challenge (RFC) is a national student-led campaign to create more sustainable university food systems. It calls on leading university officials to sign the Real Food Commitment and pledge to shift at least 20% of their current dining budgets to go toward “real” (local/community-based, ecologically sound, fair, and humane) food by 2020. By signing the Real Food Commitment, SCU can be a key part of this movement to build a healthy, fair, and sustainable food system.
BLEJIT, a student organization in SCCAP, has been researching past purchasing reports from Bon Appetit, and great news: it looks like we are already at 20% real food. SCU has the opportunity and responsibility to commit to providing a higher level of real food, however. The University has even already expressed a willingness to do so.
But the administration wants to see student support before moving through with this project. By signing this petition, you can show your support for the University signing the Real Food Commitment and increasing purchases of healthy, local, community-based, fair, humane, and ecologically sound food by 2020.
