Cut the "University Enhancement Fee"

The Santa Clara University Board of Trustees along with the faculty at the school has enjoyed a yearly rise in the tuition, substantially higher than the yearly inflation, for the past decades. To declare an extra annual fee ($625) in 2017, labeled University Enhancement Fee, to be able to provide us a better student experience is nothing but a slap in the face to everyone who made the decision to commit 4 years to this institution.
At a non-profit university located in the heart of Silicon Valley extra funding is now supposedly needed to be able to provide the following to its students:
- Faster internet connectivity
- Reliable wireless internet throughout campus
- Improved computing capabilities on campus
- Community living upgrades in Dunne and Walsh-Mclaughlin residence halls
- Pedestrian pathways
In other words, not only do they have problems financing Malley, but now they also need extra money to make pathways on campus. I am sure I speak for a lot of students when I say that we all know the school is spending a lot on landscaping, but I am sure none of us would have thought that we were going to be explicitly billed for it, on top of the tuition!
Disagreeing with this fee has nothing to do with whether you can afford it or not. It is simply a way of preventing Santa Clara University and its Board of Trustees of quickly sliding down the slippery slope of stupidity and illogicalness. What is next? A fee for the clean air that the school supplies us?
