Healthy Kids Resolution for SB County
Parents, students, and community members of Santa Barbara County. Please sign and urge the representatives of your county, schools districts, and staff within the SBCPHD to adopt this resolution based on science, statistics, and research. It is time that our children have access to true overall health again.
HEALTHY CHILDREN RESOLUTION:
WHEREAS, mandatory quarantine practices based on vaccination status instead of presence of symptoms force children to miss school for up to 10 days and puts them at risk for immediate and long-term negative effects on academic performance, social functioning, high school and college graduation rates, adult income, health, and life expectancy. and
WHEREAS, AB 130 passed the CA legislature creating the option for ALL students to choose an online or at home course of study similar to the rigors of in school instruction. No child who is most at risk or concerned about the virus will be left behind and still have access to school. and
WHEREAS, 3 out of every 4 (77%) within the age group most at risk for severe symptoms of the virus have been vaccinated against COVID in SB County according to SBCPHD. and
WHEREAS, in Santa Barbara County, since the onset of vaccinations ZERO persons 0-17 years old have died due to COVID and overall account for approximately 1% of all Covid- 19 cases; and
WHEREAS, the majority of adults and children over 12 years old—including those at high risk of adverse outcomes from COVID-19— have had ample opportunity to get vaccinated for free. and
WHEREAS, compared with 2019, the proportion of mental health reported by the United States Centers for Disease Control beginning in April 2020–related visits for children aged 5–11 and 12–17 years increased approximately 24%. and 31%, respectively;
