Kentville Town Council (and all government levels) support for Affordable Housing Projects

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

An affordable housing project is being opposed by some members of Kentville town council.  This petition has been started to save the project or at the very least to open discussion around poverty and the need for affordable housing in Kentville and surrounding areas. A majority vote against this project occurred recently which in effect killed the dream of building 30-60 affordable housing units on Oakdene Ave.  Some of the current residents have objections which should also be heard by any planning committee, perhaps the plans could be changed to accommodate those who were their first?

Affordable housing needs to be a priority and today you can show you care about the senior on a limited budget, the single mom struggling to make ends meet, the starving student struggling to stay out of debt and the low income earner spending too much of their income on housing. There are countless members of our community struggling to keep housing costs below the 30% (of income) threshold that is commonly referenced as ideal today.

Please show your support by signing this petition and let council know that you think this issue needs to be taken seriously.

It's true that this petition has been modified to take into account the differing needs of the parties who will be affected by the 118 Oakdene proposal.   The general message remains the same.  Kentville town council, we are united in our view that inspired action is nessessary on affordable housing and poverty.
