Former students and athletes know more about their coaches than anyone else.I have been coaching at San mateo for the past 4 years and each day Ed has asked me how my team is doing and has given me great support-He is a treasure to be really appreciated and I am glad we have become friends

Coach Riley has taught great things as a coach and in being a great athlete, i was fortunate enough to get to know him in my few practices I attended in Track&Field my sophomore year. I wouldn't see the track&field team being the same without him he's amazing personality and his great level of teaching

I have known Ed ever since I started coaching in the District. He is someone who I have to come to know and admire as both a coach and human being. He is great with his athletes. Besides teaching them what they need to know as an athlete he helps them grow as young person!
I recommend the school admin take a step back and look at the big picture. Do the right thing by retaining Ed and working with him to create the type of XC program you require. That is teamwork

Coach Riley was a great coach. I'm grateful that he was always there for me. He truly encouraged me to be my best. I have the utmost respect for him, and still keep in touch, despite having graduated from high school over 6 years ago.

I have been coaching at Half Moon Bay High for 10 years. During that time, I have come to know Ed Riley. He is one of the kindest and genuine men I have ever met. I consider him a mentor of mine. He was supportive of me through my first few years of coaching. My HMB athletes all know and respect him. In watching his SMHS athletes, their progress through each season and over the course of their careers illustrates appropriate guidance. The success of the Bearcat Invitational also shows his touch. The loyalty of his athletes show that he is a strong mentor for his athletes. It is not only a bad move to let Ed Riley go. It is a wrong one as well. Keep Ed!

I feel that the district should re-instate Coach Ed Riley in his position at San Mateo High School. Working with high school youth in after school programs such as cross country and track is a very positive influence in their lives. We should be working every angle to support our youth.

Great coach, who brings alot of tradition to track and field and has always made it affordable for school to compete at San Mateo Invite. Has done alot for the San Mateo community.
