We the undersigned residents of Alpine Road and environs, are increasingly alarmed by the danger, speed, congestion, blocking of access for emergency vehicles, noise, vibration, and exhaust fumes of traffic on Alpine Road. This is largely owing to Stanford commuter traffic and in particular, to large construction trucks going to and from sites at Stanford and within Menlo Park.

We have been notified that on Nov. 1st Stanford will start construction of the new hospital complex and truck activity will increase. At present convoys of trucks are even using Alpine Road at 2 AM in the morning. We need to get the trucks off Alpine. This is a huge safety issue to drivers, cyclist and pedestrians.

We respectfully ask the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors to:

1. Enact urgency ordinances to mitigate the above problems by: limiting size (e.g. banning the double semi-trailers); limiting hours; limiting Truck Speed (which would reduce noise and vibration).

2. Provide law enforcement to back up the CHP during rush hours and require the City of Menlo Park to police the Junipero Serra intersections.

3. Ensure that Menlo Park, Palo Alto and Santa Clara BOS require their Planning Dept. to mandate alternative truck haul routes other than Alpine road for any new construction projects.
