San Marcos City Council:
As you know, our city is rapidly growing. As a result we are beginning to experience overcrowding in our schools, on our streets, and on our freeways. The city council has recently completed building over 2,000 dwelling units and have currently approved over 4,871 homes to be built, with more than 4,000 additional units awaiting approval. We, as taxpayers and residents of San Marcos, are concerned about the impact this residential development will have on our already congested roadways, on the safety of our children who walk to and from school on busy streets some of which lack sidewalks, and on the already impacted schools throughout the district. We view the current infrastructure as barely able to sustain the currents residents.
We would like to help find solutions to these concerns before we see any more residential development approved by our city council. We would like to suggest a course of action that includes the following key components:
- Partner with the school board and land developers to secure land for future school facilities in order to accommodate current needs and future growth.
- Fortify San Marcos roadways by widening key arterial roads and building sidewalks where needed.
- Delay approval of all residential building requests until the infrastructure concerns are addressed.
