Rebecca McFarland started this petition to San Luis Obispo County Supervisors

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS                                TRANSITION HOMELESS ENCAMPMENT OFF                                                           OF PALISADES AVE., NOW!

For over 16 months, our County Government entities have allowed and encouraged Palisades Ave. in Los Osos, as a safe place for homeless people to park RV’s, Vans, Trailers and Cars. What was once a small group of about 10 people is now close to 40, the widespread advertisement of Safe Parking by the County starting on 3/26/20 has caused it to grow. Some of these people are suffering from untreated, severe, mental illness, substance abuse and other health problems and it is unconscionable that they are not being cared for. In addition, many town residents no longer visit our park and library due to the chaos, unsanitary conditions and drug dealing and fighting. This scenario is playing out around our entire County and once this Sanctioned Encampment is functioning well, people from around the County may transition here as well.

WE DEMAND A DECENT PLACE FOR THESE PEOPLE TO STAY AND WE WANT OUR TOWN CENTER BACK, NOW.

Until such time as there is a long-term solution, we demand:

1. That THE COUNTY find a better, safer, more sanitary place for people.
2. THE COUNTY open the COUNTY-OWNED El Chorro Regional Park Campground    for the homeless as a safer, more sanitary place with water, toilets, showers, trash collection with secure oversight by trained workers.
3. THE COUNTY coordinate all needed services on site:  Medical Care, Mental Health Care, Social Services, Drug and Alcohol Treatment and Camp Management.
4. THE COUNTY maintain El Chorro Regional Campground as a Sanctioned Encampment with services for 2 years or until a permanent place is found for people.
