Why this petition matters

Started by Baolin Su

The coronavirus (COVID-19) is spreading in the United States, especially California. There have been many cases of the virus here in California that are domestic transfer. The Grand Princess cruise ship released over 2000 people, some tested positive for the Coronavirus, and many others with unknown whereabouts who still have not been tested. Now, the Grand Princess, holding over 3500 more passengers, is planned to dock in Oakland on Monday. Many of these passengers have already been diagnosed with the Coronavirus, who knows how many others are also diagnosed?

Experts have already recommended people to avoid large gatherings, so why are schools still open? So many people are packed into tight spaces which will make the transmission of the virus more susceptible. What parents want their kids to go to school in such environment? Parents should not be worried about their kids going to school.

There are already many cases in Contra Costa County and Santa Clara and it’s still growing.

The San Leandro Unified School District and neighboring districts MUST cancel class for the safety of students. The districts should not care about money. The districts should care more about student safety. We should just switch to online classes like how the Northshore School District near Seattle has done. We can do it too.
