The San Joaquin Activity Center is the epitome of love, community, and family. The program was established in 1961 by the parents and families of developmentally disabled citizens and, for 57 years, has provided a space for the consumers to learn, build relationships, and reach their maximum potential as individuals, creating a community of support in their peers and instructors. Closing the Activity Center will take away a unique and positive environment that has successfully nurtured growth in each of the amazing individuals attending the program. For the consumers, this is not just the loss of a day program, it is a loss of a family and a home.

We, the undersigned, call upon the Board of Supervisors to provide the funding needed from the San Joaquin General Budget to keep the San Joaquin Activity Center open for two more fiscal years (2018-2019, 2019-2020). This time would allow concerned families and individuals to organize and establish an alternative and financially sound program to preserve the spirit and community of the Activity Center.
