Alvin Tran started this petition to San Francisco State University and

On 6/7/2020, the Office of International Programs (OIP) send out the announcement to decide to change the Classification of Instructional Program (CIP) code listed on my I-20 will be changed from 11.0103 Information Technology to 52.0201 Business Administration and Management General. The reason is, "The change is to ensure that the CIP code reflects your Business Administration major instead of the concentration within the major." This result makes Information System major no longer eligible for OPT extension that significantly impacts many students' journey when there are students closely to graduate. Furthermore, it's not only impacting international students, but the change also affects anyone: my classmate/ friend in the same Major who is a citizen revealed. Imaging their BS degree will be Business Administration instead of Information Systems since this major essentially is on the Technology side.

A major should be reflecting its subjects, not by the name of the Major. For example, information System is a STEM major. Also, if the change would take, it should only be for new students who have not yet decided on their Major, not for the current students who already have invested and plan their journey.
