Why this petition matters

Started by Jayson Moore

The first Black Studies Department was created in 1969 at San Francisco State University, after a student lead strike lasted several months. The first person to coordinate this unprecedented program was Dr. Nathan Hare. Dr. Hare nurtured the program when he was in charge, which spurred other universities to adopt a College of Ethnic Studies. So much so by 1971, five hundred universities added Black Studies to their cirrculum. We  believe Dr. Hare should be immortalize with a statue on the San Francisco State University campus. As a university who wants to promote  diversity, what exemplifies diversity more than recognizing and celebrating the work Dr. Hare has done for the community.
