The COVID-19 has now spread to over 98,000 people around the world and has caused almost 3,100deaths, both totals higher than the SARS and MERS epidemics of the past.

As the coronavirus cases are increasing by each hour. Though there are currently no reported cases within the immediate SF State community, it is possible to know the extent of the threat. The virus lay dormant in the body for two weeks or even more before symptoms emerge. The Close proximity in the classrooms, dinning halls and other crowded areas will inevitability increase infection rates.

It is important to mention that many students commute from other surrounding cities and I am sitting writing this petition, there are 28 cases in California, and 15 in Bay Area, 2 in SF. As parents, we place great priority on our academics, but right now this event must take precedence.

We are requesting Dr. Timothy P. White, the chancellor of the San Francisco State University to take the initiative and close the campus in order to stop the spread of this virus. Take advantage of the technology and start the online classes. All of us know the risks of COVID-19, particularly those who are elderly, have pre existing respiratory illness, and we must act now to keep the students, their families, and the community safe. Thank you for signing the petition.
