San Francisco Board of Supervisors and San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee: Support the Botanical Garden

It’s budget season in San Francisco. For us, that means the Board of Supervisors is voting on two important proposals impacting the future of the Botanical Garden; approval of our lease and management agreement, which governs the relationship between the Botanical Garden Society and the City; and renewal of a much needed revenue source for our Garden, the non-resident entrance fee.

We need your help today, please show your support so we can continue to maintain a world-class Botanical Garden here in San Francisco.

The lease and management agreement is so important – it sets the framework for how the Botanical Garden Society and the City will continue to work together for years to come.

The non-resident fee is providing an important new source of revenue for the Botanical Garden. We are on track to bring in more than $600,000 this fiscal year to support the Garden. This is a non-resident fee only, charging $7 for people who live outside the City to help fund the operation of the Garden and to support education and community outreach programs, including our youth education program that serves 10,000 San Francisco children.

As a supporter of the Garden, we need your help to ensure the Board of Supervisors approves these critical measures. Our community should be proud of the almost 60-year partnership that makes the Botanical Garden – its plant collections, its garden displays and its programs – possible.

Support San Francisco Botanical Garden

Please approve the lease and management agreement between San Francisco Botanical Garden Society and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department and renew the $7.00 non-resident entrance fee.

The lease and management agreement establishes the framework for operation and management of the Botanical Garden. It governs how San Francisco Botanical Garden Society will continue its nearly 60 year partnership, to work with and under the oversight of the Recreation and Park Department, to support the Botanical Garden and provide an enriching experience for the people of San Francisco, the Bay Area and the world.

The non-resident fee provides an important source of revenue for the Botanical Garden – for maintenance of the Garden by the City gardeners; for education and community outreach programs, including operating the most comprehensive horticulture library in Northern California and serving 10,000 San Francisco children each year through the successful youth education program. All revenue generated from the fee is for the benefit of the Botanical Garden. Fee revenue has grown to exceed budgeted expectations and is projected to bring in more than $600,000 for this current fiscal year.
