Why this petition matters

PSA Flight 182 was a major part of San Diego's history. The memory of that day is still vivid in the minds of thousands affected.  38 years later, there is still no proper memorial marking the place where 144 people lost their lives. Our intention is to create a permanent memorial marker that recognizes and honors the victims, their families, first responders including residents, law enforcement and other emergency workers who "survived" THAT day, but live with the horrific memories.  We propose a small memorial marker near the site where the 144 victims perished. There is no where to go near that hallowed ground, no peaceful spot for reflection and remembrance. This marker would include all of the names of those who perished that day and would be an improvement project donated by the committee to the neighborhood and the city of San Diego, for the benefit of all, many of whom have yet to visit San Diego and the crash site.
