Open Captions at All Events at SDSU's Future Football Stadium and Viejas Arena

Open captions on large electronic screens at stadiums and arenas around the country provide visual access to what is being announced in these venues. Open captions provide a way for all attendees to keep track what is being said, no matter the noise level in the stadium or arena. Open captions provide a fast and visible way to announce what is happening at that venue and provide emergency information and instructions, if necessary. Open captions do not isolate people or segregate them because of hearing loss.
The current captioning system is closed and was set up as an afterthought at both SDCCU Stadium and Viejas Arena. The current captioning system isolates people from other people and the event by both seating and by forcing them to use small screens to read what is being said. There is better access at home watching a game on TV with captions than there is at SDCCU Stadium and Viejas Arena.
We call upon SDSU to listen to the undersigned SDSU students, community members, and alumni. We want open captions at SDSU's future football stadium, sports complex and at Viejas Arena.
