San Diego State Student started this petition to San Diego State University

Due to the Coronavirus, students have been forced to leave their campus housing and transition to online classes. While the change from on-campus classes to online classes has played a vital role in attempting to stop the spread of the virus, Students are at a stand-still. How can we expect students who may now be homeless, or may not have access to internet, or may not have access to a computer at all, to react to this sudden change? I have seen students without homes sleep in the 24 hour library. Not only do our students face physical obstacles but mental ones. The world is in a state of emergency, shelves of stores are empty before the day is even over, mothers and fathers must worry about how they will feed & care for their children, children face the stress and fear that their parents and grandparents may contract an illness with no cure and countless deaths already under its belt. I work in a grocery store and have witnessed people fighting for the last of supplies. This does not include the stress of losing one's means of income. Not everyone can simply work from home. Businesses are going under and people are being laid off. Our students face the possibility of crushing debt and eviction. And while all of this is happening, students are still expected to maintain a passing grade. How can we ask our students to keep up with course work and learn not only the curriculum, but the platforms and applications now needed to submit their course work? The environment our students are living in is not conducive to learning and will, if it has not already, effect student's grades. This is why it is my belief that classes should be postponed until fall semester and all money payed towards the spring 2020 semester should be redirected towards the fall 2020 semester. If San Diego State University cares about the quality of instruction or the living situation of their students, they should take this into consideration.

"People who have had no prior history of mental health issues are suddenly having trouble sleeping, concentrating and getting on with their normal day-to-day lives. Those with a prior history of anxiety or OCD have found their symptoms have been exacerbated by the news of COVID-19." - Dr. Amir Khan
