Why this petition matters

We are thoroughly concerned about the Coronavirus outbreaks in our state. We don’t want to wait and would like to take pro-active measures. We believe that starting spring break one week earlier will benefit our community by helping to stop the spread. We need to take precautions to save our future children.

SBCUSD students, teachers, and staff are exposed to an unhealthy environment. There are no visible changes such as sanitizers, highly recommended handwashing protocols, distanced seat arrangements, and alcohol-based cleaning. If these changes have been implemented, they are not visible within the schools. While we understand that child care can become an issue for many families, we are hoping that other families will understand our viewpoint in keeping our school community safe from Covid-19. If the San Bernardino City Unified School District does not take precautions, the Coronavirus could spread heavily.

Mike Pence, US vice president, said over a week ago, that there are over 1 million test kits available for this illness. Where are the results of these tests when we stand with only 6,600 people tested? In addition, today (March 11, 2020) US President Donald Trump stated in a news briefing from The Oval Office that communities should have heightened school closures and avoid social gatherings.

As of March 11, 2020, there are more than ten thousand confirmed cases worldwide. There are over 150 in California alone. Should San Bernardino keep its schools open? The San Bernardino City Unified School District should close schools temporarily by starting spring break on March 16, 2020, instead of March 23, 2020, this would really benefit our community. There have been no seen changes to make schools safer, but they should be implementing the previously mentioned changes. It could really benefit our community for SBCUSD to add one week to spring break. Sign today, keep everyone safe!
