We never could have imagined that a pandemic would wipe out the entire year and a half and most of the opportunities. We know how disappointing and difficult this has been for you all and we appreciate how you have carried on with the constraints and complexities that are now required. While the fallout from the virus has been crushing for all of the performing arts students at Samford, this senior class in particular has felt the weight of these disappointments. While some of us have had the chance to be in a Samford production, there are many who have had little to no stage time. And while Little Women has been a gift after a year without any other opportunities to see our students on stage, this small cast only included a portion of these rising seniors and, with the limited seating requirements, many extended family and friends still have not had a chance to see our students in any Samford productions.

We, the students, need a musical that could significantly feature a large number of the students as well as some of the talented underclassmen. The season should include a musical that consists of a modern ensemble that everyone wants to participate and work on.

How we can make this happen:

- Choose a different show for the Wright Center Stage that incorporates opportunities for the students in general, but especially, the senior and junior class and does not require casting from the community.

- Push students to be greater than what they had in each of their individual high schools by applying the skills we have learned (acting, singing, dancing) in our times spent at Samford.

Thus, we are disappointed to see the upcoming season have very limited opportunities for this next year. These productions will no doubt be excellent as always, but it seems that with at least A Christmas Carol the characters might need to be filled in with youth from the community and professional actors which is disappointing for your students who have waited 4 years to get to perform on that stage and now might not have the opportunity to do so. We have previously done many period pieces and are looking for a different type of musical that well represents the range of the students within this department.

Parents have made financial sacrifices and invested in an education for the performing arts yet many of the students have had training solely in the classroom with little experience on a stage. The senior class will be graduating next spring with resumes that contain primarily 10-minute and one act shows and student directed productions unable to compete at an audition against others with more significant experience. It is a sad reality that we are hoping can change.

Please listen to us and hear what we have to say. We believe that we deserve better.
