On August 25, 2020 a heinous double murder rocked the small all American community of Georgetown SC and surrounding. A crazed gunman took the innocent lives of a beloved stepfather and his young step daughter. The community was heart broken that such a senseless crime could happen in our usually quiet and peaceful area. Nothing about it made sense. People of all racial backgrounds were heartbroken. The victims received an outpouring of love and support. In a perfect world race would be a non factor, but as we all know in today’s racially charged world that’s not the case. The victims in this tragedy were white and the murderer was a black male.
In the middle of this pain Pawleys Island Mayor Brian Henry who is also the owner of Palmetto Cheese decided that he would use this senseless tragedy as a tool to incite a racial war in the community of Pawleys Island and surrounding areas, taking to social media to urge Americans to “rise up” as he linked this terrible tragedy with BLM & Antifa as if Black Americans colluded to commit this heinous crime against these victims. His tirade implied that black people were supportive and in agreement with the murders and we all should be punished. How can a man sworn to serve and protect his community use these families suffering as a tool to justify racism and stoke the fires against the black people in his own community. The more interesting part of the story is that Mayor Henry has created an entire business using the likeness of a BLACK WOMAN on his product packaging and hiring a Black woman to do in store product shows. In his most recent attempt to make amends he has created a foundation to address racial injustices in honor of Mrs. Vertrella Gardener the black face for his product. His money cannot erase the damage that his mouth has done. He had eroded the basic trust of his position as mayor and he has disrespected his constituents. We are asking Sam’s Club to STOP CARRYING PALMETTO CHEESE. Mr. Henry is obviously ok with creating wealth using the image of a Black person but he has no interest in the humanity of black people. Black people deserve and demand respect from the places where spend our hard earned money.
A direct quote from Nielson research highlights our buying power. “At 47.8 million strong and a buying power that’s on par with many countries’ gross domestic products, African Americans continue to outpace spending nationally,” said Cheryl Grace, Nielsen’s Senior Vice President of Community Alliances and Consumer Engagement and co-creator of the DIS Report.
We are asking that Sam’s Club stop carrying the product of a blatant racist, a racial antagonizer an all around disrespectful human being Brian Henry owner of Palmetto Cheese of Pawleys Island S.C.
