As a parent of a 4 yr old son with ASD, I find it difficult to take him to public parks. There are so many safety issues that I have encountered at the park because my 4 yr old has Autism. He will run to the road given the chance. He is drawn to moving objects such as cars. Putting a fence around a park will help parents that have children with special needs enormously.

Simply calling my childs name or telling him, "no" is not enough. He is 50 lbs and we have to carry him as if he's an infant to physically deter him from going to the road. He is not always willing to be deterred and will struggle.

Many children with autism do not respond to their name being called or have good eye contact. My child is completely non-verbal, so communicating with him about danger is not enough. My child loves going to parks, as a family we try to go every weekend but finding the least dangerous park for him is a task. There will always be the danger of a road and no fence at a park.

According to the SLC Tribune, Utah has one of the highest rates of Autism in the U.S.; measures should be taken to improve public safety for special needs children. As a special needs parent I would appreciate your signature to get the SLC Community to put some fences put around parks for the sake safety.
