Make SSU address its health issues
As we enter the third year of the COVID-19 pandemic and yet another semester amidst rising cases with the Omicron variant, SSU students would like to bring their questions, concerns, and impressions regarding the COVID-19 action plan to the attention of university administration.
The students’ experience of attending university during a pandemic is drastically different from the experience of most staff and administration, and many students feel as though their perspectives are being overlooked by administration and those making the “rules.” Unlike most staff, students are dependent on the university's resources for housing, food, transportation, health services, and other facilities promised by the university to students while paying to attend SSU.
Since the start of the pandemic in 2020, students' access to those resources has been inadequate. The pandemic has increased uncertainty of the course of future semesters, and the students are receiving the biggest blow to their security, since the uncertainty affects not only their education but also their living resources. It is the job of the university and administration to provide security to students paying for and attending the institution.
It is also crucial that the institution provides a safe, welcoming, and collaborative space for students, parents, teachers and other staff to voice their concerns regarding communication with and experience at the institution. SSU has multiple health and safety violations in its dorms and they are no place for students and teachers to live in.
