Save Salem's trees
Road side Tamarind trees which have provided shade for decades on the Yercaud Road in Salem are being cut down in the name of development. At a time when global warming and water depletion are threatening life on the planet, the authorities should make every effort to save trees and encourage greater green cover. Some of the grand old trees on Yercaud Road are being cut even though they fall outside the planned widening limit of 14.06 metres. This has been highlighted in the past but the depredation goes on. Please see this link to an article called ' Tamarind and intolerance' http://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/energy-and-environment/of-tamarind-and-tolerance/article3527220.ece .We request the State Highways department to immediately call a stop to the irrational felling of trees and support the cause of a greener Salem.
