Stop transporting the elderly in the middle of the night.

Stop transporting the elderly in the middle of the night.

THIS COULD BE YOUR LOVED ONE OR EVEN YOU!!!
IS IT ETHICAL TO TAKE AN 89 YEAR OLD FFOM THEIR BED BACK TO HOSPITAL IN A NON EMERGENCY SITUATION AT 4.30AM?!!
THE 89 YEAR OLD IN QUESTION ALSO HAS DELIRIUM AND DEMENTIA.
THIS TOOK PLACE AT THIS TIME WITHOUT THE KNOWLEDGE OF HER FAMILY AND HUSBAND OF 64 YEARS.
THIS IS A REGULAR OCCURRENCE AND RESULTS IN DEATH WITHIN HOURS MANY TIMES
THIS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN AND NEEDS TO BE MADE LAW.
JEAN’S LAW
THIS PETITION IS TO BRING IN A LAW THAT STOPS CARE HOMES & HOSPITALS MOVING OUR LOVED ONES WHO ARE ELDERLY & INFIRM AT UNEARTHLY HOURS UNLESS ITS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY. I PROPOSE A CUT OFF AT MIDNIGHT UNTIL 7AM
My Story
My 89 year mum-in-law has delirium and underlying dementia and after a 5 week hospital stay she was discharged to a care home for continued health care. Unfortunately, upon arrival she became very anxious, agitated and then became aggressive. The home decided they couldn’t cope albeit an EMI (elderly, mentally infirm) care home and ordered an ambulance at 4pm to have her transported back to hospital. Fortunately, her bed had been kept open for her as these situations do arise.
Upon contacting the hospital the following morning, I discovered not only had her bed been given up by mistake and she was now waiting in the A&E department alone but also that SHE HAD BEEN TRANSPORTED AT 4.30AM!!!
I hurried to the hospital to find her wandering around A&E in her nightdress with just a blanket around her shoulders. She looked like a lost soul, so frail and afraid and she was cold. The care home had not even put on her dressing gown which was with her belongings.
This has been absolutely heart wrenching for the whole family and in particular her loving husband of 64 years.
I understand that the NHS are under immense pressure and mistakes happen however, I want to do everything within my power to ensure no elderly, infirm, vulnerable person is transported at night unless it is a medical emergency.
