With the recent public consultation into scrapping prescription charges for over 60's, and the reason given that more money is needed for the NHS, it seems as though the truth is not actually being shared with those who fund government servants. The arguments for people over 60 is that many are at the end of their working life, and are not the wealthy few who can afford to lose this benefit. Many have health conditions and essential medications such as statins and a wide range of chronic illnesses or the onset of more serious medical conditions.

This highlights just how much is paid to the devolved nations in The Barnett Formula and the need for some transparency here. Everyone receives free Prescriptions in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, so why in England is a benefit to over 60's now being questioned?

In a fair, equal society such as the United Kingdom is meant to be, bearing in mind that many of us voted this government into power and the grey vote is the vote you need to keep on board, it makes sense that you keep that part of the electorate happy. It also makes sense to question the illogical side of keep the Barnett Formula which is not relevant to todays needs.
