More frequents baby scans with 2nd pregnancy.

More frequents baby scans with 2nd pregnancy.

The UK is a country that offers minimal scans in a "low risk second pregnancy".
The assumption is made that if you had a successful and uncomplicated first pregnancy then your second will be just the same.
This is wrong.
We have some of the lowest scan rates in Europe, with apparently one of the best health care systems in the World
More scans need to be done during all pregnancies at regular intervals
There were around 2000 stillborn babies in 2020 or 4 in 1000 pregnancies.
I had an uncomplicated natural birth for my first child and as such was considered low risk for my second. I fell pregnant with my second in early February 2020, my first scan was on the 09/04/2020, everything was perfect. My next scan was in May and then at 34 weeks in September 3 whole months later. Only 3 scans in total over 9 months.
As it happened I had gone back to Poland for a couple weeks and paid for a scan to be done while I was there. To my horror I found my son had developed what appeared to be Hydrocephalus.
I rushed home to have a consultation with my midwife and a subsequent MRI to find that my son had suffered a major Brain Haemorrhage, which had caused major brain damage and seriously impaired brain development. The painful decision was made to terminate.
Had I not had the extra scan, I would have given birth, not knowing that my son had major brain damage until after the birth and would never have had a normal life and in fact would have had no life at all apart from having a heart beat and breathing yet being brain dead.
Please sign this Petition for more ultrasound scans to be performed more frequently through out all pregnancies, even low risk ones, as there is always a risk.
We need to help all pregnant mothers to ensure that they know what is happening with their unborn child. The stress of not knowing or worrying is terrible.
