Keep prescription charges free for over-60s

Keep prescription charges free for over-60s
There are threats to increase the age people are eligible for free prescriptions from 60 to 66. The government say this should be acceptable as people in their early 60s are still in employment.
With the current cost of a single prescription already at £9.35 per item, and the threat of it exceeding £10 this year, this is hugely alarming for thousands of people who depend on medication month by month. For those with a low income, free prescriptions are a lifeline to health. As an individual's age increases, whether in employment or not, they become more vulnerable to health issues, and are more likely to need appropriate medication.
A price hike, and loss of access to free prescriptions, especially for over-60s who depend on appropriate drugs to keep healthy, won't just hit their pockets, but their health as well.
