Amy Roberts started this petition to Sajid Javid (Home Secretary of the United Kingdom)

I’m Amy, a full-time working mum from Nottinghamshire. I’m married to the wonderful Andrus, and we have a gorgeous 2-year-old girl called Audrey.

My family are everything to me. My Mum, Dad, younger brother, older sister, young niece and nephew all live in Nottinghamshire, where I was born and grew up. We should be celebrating Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions together.

My little girl should be seeing her grandparents, aunt, uncle and cousins regularly, and forging the same incredibly strong bonds with them that I have.

But we are denied all of this, and I have been forced to move thousands of miles away to the US. Why? My husband and the father of my child is from the US, and the UK's immigration rules mean that I have to earn the equivalent of at least £18,600 a year in the UK in order to have my family together in the country of my birth.

As the mother of a young child, I struggle to earn enough to bring my husband and daughter home. Instead, I have to live 5000 miles away in a state of constant homesickness because of the separation from my wider family, and suffer with chronic anxiety, panic attacks and depression. We are pleading with the Home Office to scrap this cruel policy called the Minimum Income Requirement, and let me, my husband and daughter come home to my loving family in Nottinghamshire.

I worked hard, paid taxes and National Insurance contributions for many years in the UK. My husband is a hard worker with a degree and many years of management experience under his belt. He is ready and willing to work hard and contribute to British society. Yet just because I don't earn a certain amount and he is from outside the EU, he is not welcome in my own country.

This inhumane policy discriminates against lower-income families, against women (who still earn a lot less than men), and especially against mothers of young children like myself.

I don’t want my little girl (a British citizen like myself) to grow up in a place where at any moment, someone could walk into her school and open fire. I don’t want her to grow up in a country where the talk is not about building bridges but about building walls. I want to bring her home.

The Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI), which is backing my petition, works every day with "Skype families" that have been ripped apart because of their income. Thousands of children are growing up without one of their parents because of these cruel rules.

We believe this is wrong. We want to build a life together in the UK, but are being held back because of the Home Office’s rules.

Please sign this petition and make sure hard-working people like myself aren’t exiled because of who they fall in love with.
