Dear SPPS,

I want to voice the concern of having synchronous class session. In many students eyes the synchronous class sessions are of no real use to anyone but to waste our time. Most of the time students aren’t paying attention during classes or just aren’t even in class. It is wrong to force students into a online session in which they receive   no benefit. Its wrong that your grade will be affected if you aren’t present during class sessions. Many students can’t make these classes due to work or house hold issues such as having children to look after, internet issues and so much more. During a time like this convenience is everything and with these required synchronous classes they are just the biggest inconvenience for many students.

For the teachers, we appreciate and love how hard you are working. Most of you are understanding of students not being able meet in synchronous classes. But you still have a job to do and rules to follow. We understand that you guys try your best to teach in such a weird way and we can see how much of a inconvenience it is for you too.

A better solution for synchronous class sessions is just to have videos posted by teachers that students can watch and replay to better understand the material. So much time is wasted during synchronous sessions due to teachers simply being overwhelmed by this new way to teach and that isn’t good for students or teachers. Having videos of teachers going through the material is a better substitute for synchronous sessions. If students happen to have questions or concerns then yes having one on one google meet or zoom sessions will be great. But forcing every student to participate in something that isn’t benefiting anyone isn’t working.
