Aric Moirao started this petition to Saint Mary's College Administration and

On August 5th SMC administration hosted a virtual meeting to answer questions about the upcoming semester. In this meeting, a constant theme was the tuition increase for the 2020-2021 academic year

This tuition increase for the 2020-2021 academic year was voted on in September of 2019 by the board of trustees. This decision was before the COVID -19 crisis had occurred. A pandemic which has impacted a great deal of the Saint Mary’s community. Who have to make the tough decision to continue their education further.

We, the following signatories, hereby respectfully request a call for a special meeting of the board of trustees to re-evaluate their decision to increase tuition. While also looking at the resolution regarding tuition transparency that was passed last semester. Which went unanswered by the appropriate members by June 5th, 2020, the date specified on the resolution.

We call for this special meeting time of the board of trustees,in which the meeting minutes can be public and released to the student body and all faculty and staff members in the Saint Mary's Community. For transparency as well as the Associated Student’s senators and executive team to fulfil their role as the bridge between students and administration with the filling conditions:

Representation of the student body, this being in the  elected representatives within Associated Students. These representatives including:

- President of Associated Students

- Vice President of finance

- Class of 2021 senator

- Class of 2022 senator

- Class of 2023 senator

The reasons for this re-evaluation of the tuition for the 2020-2021 academic year are:

- Saint Mary’s College cannot provide an encompassing experience due to the new online class format that are mainly lecture based
- Failure to offer support to students that may not have stable internet to support the fully online format
- Failure to properly notify student body about increase as of years prior
- Increasing tuition during a time of great financial hardship goes against the Lasallian core principles our college holds
- Decrease in access to amenities that are provided when school is in normal session (e.g: Campus Recreation, Library, Printers, ect)
