Protect the Interests of USciences Students, Athletes, and Faculty Throughout Merger
Protect the Interests of USciences Students, Athletes, and Faculty Throughout Merger
Why this petition matters
In May 2021, it was announced that University of the Sciences was being bought by St. Joseph's University, and that SJU would fully absorb USciences in June 2022. Because of this, the class of 2023 is completely subject to the decisions of SJU in the way of graduation honors and valedictorian status, rather that being held to the standards at the time matriculation and being considered independently from current SJU students. USciences athletes are being forced to step back, but the athletes currently at SJU are not facing these sacrifices. Faculty are losing their jobs through no fault of their own. The students at USciences were forced into the merge despite matriculating to USciences and did not know that this would happen. We deserve our Latin Honors as they were at the time of our matriculation. Our valedictorian deserves recognition. Students who qualify for the usual honor societies deserve to have that recognition. Our faculty deserves protection. Athletes deserve to keep playing. USciences students are being erased in this merger, which was almost universally opposed by the student body. Tell USciences and SJU administration that it is not fair to change academic honors or to force athletes to resign because of the merger!
