Why this petition matters

Started by Morgan Anderson

We are always told to "dress to impress." Many people believe in the motto if you look good, you'll feel good, and therefore perform well. That was not the case for the Saint John Softball team. For many years, There was no softball program at Saint John due to a lack of interest. Recently, the softball program rejuvenated, skyrocketed, and is now the girls sport with the most players.

But when we restarted the program, we used the old jerseys. As girls graduated, they kept them, so uniforms became scarce. Last year, we had very few spare jerseys for a team of 17. The girls that typically would wear a small were forced to wear extra larges, and you could hardly find a top with a matching bottom. Girls weren't able to pick their numbers; they could only choose based on their size.

We often felt uncomfortable approaching the field with pants and jerseys that didn't fit, numbers peeling off, and different people wearing different things, or "whatever we had." Going to a Catholic School, we value school uniforms and looking our best. So shouldn't the same principle be on the field too? One of the most challenging feelings as an athlete is the feeling of being defeated before you get onto the field just because a team can "look the part." Since the jerseys we have now are so old and outdated, it will be almost impossible to find the exact design of the jerseys we have now, so the remaining six girls won't have an exact match to the rest of the team.

Providing the 2020 Lady Heralds Softball team of 23 with new jerseys would give us an intimidation factor, a competitive edge, and more confidence in what we do because when you look good, you feel good.
