Barry Ndeh started this petition to Saint Francis University Saint Francis University

There is no doubt that we are facing an unprecedented situation with the closure of our schools due to COVID 19. Due to this pandemic, students are now expected to continue their classes online for the remainder of the school year. There is no doubt that this has been problematic for students as well as staff. The traditional grading practices during these times are deeply unfair to those struggling with housing, food, health, family duties, a safe study space, access to the internet or classes several time zones away. Thus I propose we switch to a pass/fail grading system. Many prestigious universities across the US have already made the transition to this system, including many Ivy League schools. This system allows students to receive one of two grades in each of their courses. If a student receives a 60% or higher they would receive a passing grade. If a student receives a 59.9% or lower they would receive a failing grade. This would, in essence, replace the letter grade system that is already in place. Making this change would limit the ramifications to the GPA, that each and every student has strived so hard to achieve. This would especially be the case for the graduating class of 2020. I also propose that the university allows each individual student to choose whether they would to graded using the traditional grading system of the pass/ fail system. I believe that it would also have a positive impact on the mental health and overall well-being of all students. I urge all students, staff, and parents to sign this petition. we all are striving to BECOME THAT SOMEONE during these uncertain times.
