Kate Hounsom started this petition to Sainsbury’s

After visiting Sainsbury’s I was disappointed at the huge number of plastic covered products such as strawberries, raspberries, nectarines, apples and grapes to name but a few. There were no alternatives to buy these loose. Not only were they covered in plastic but the plastic is not recyclable. The plastic boxes could be swapped to card board boxes or the fruit could be sold loose in bunches with the use of paper bags or customers bringing own containers.  Even some bananas were in plastic bags next to some that were not, proving that the plastic wrappers are not necessary.

Vegetables and items such as tomatoes were also wrapped with limited choice for loose purchase. Sainsbury’s is such a large company that with some changes could make a massive difference and lead the way in plastic reduction.
