Lily Carr started this petition to Sainsbury's (Sainsbury's) and

What is our cause?

We are aiming to make a drastic change towards the major supermarket policies concerning the use of single-use plastic on packaging of items.

Why is single-use plastic a problem?

Single-use plastic is slowly suffocating our planet! Scientists have predicted that we only have 12 years until we hit the point of no return. It takes a HUGE 1000 years for plastic to decompose, thats longer than we'll be alive for if we keep going down this path. Supermarkets use at least 59 BILLION pieces of plastic each year and some even have no plan to reduce this number. We need your help to change their minds before its too late. Our supermarkets will also still be filled with plastic you can't even recycle for the next 7 years. Thats more than half of the years we have until we hit the tipping point!

Still not convinced?

By 2050, a mere 31 years away, there will be more plastic than actual FISH in our oceans. 100,000 marine creatures and 1 million sea birds die per year due to plastic entanglement. Could you imagine an ocean with nothing but plastic swimming around in it?

On an even larger scale, enough plastic is thrown away each year to circle the earth 4 TIMES. This is completely barbaric and ridiculous.

We need to put a stop to this, and we need to do it NOW.

Help us stop this horrific destruction of our planet before we have no planet left. Sign our petition, and lets help save the world together.
