SAIL: Stop selling Canada Goose jackets
Canada Goose Inc. is an outdoor clothing company who uses real coyote fur as trim on the hoods of their parkas.
Despite all of the controversy surrounding the use of fur, and the widespread knowledge that trapping is cruel, Canada Goose Inc. continues to support the trapping and killing of our wildlife for bits of fur trim.
Fact: Leg-hold traps are STILL legal in every province and territory across Canada. While leg-hold traps with 'teeth' have been banned, the remaining models of leg-hold traps all have the same intention. These traps are designed to hold an animal who is fighting for his or her life. Animals will, and do, break teeth and bones trying to escape.
Leg-hold traps are still legal in every province and territory across Canada. These traps are designed to hold an animal who is fighting for his or her life. Animals will, and do, break teeth and bones trying to escape. Trap check times vary from 20 hours to once every 14 days and lots of these animals die from starvation, dehydration or blood loss.
Coyote fur (or any fur) is not absolutely necessary. The vast majority of people do not live in climates where their skin can freeze in an instant. The majority of the Canadian population lives in large urban cities near the southern border.
In Canada, the leg-hold, Conibear and snare trap are used to catch and kill coyotes. Given the opportunity and correct information, many Canadians would argue that these traps are incredibly inhumane.
I urge SAIL to discontinue the selling of Canada Goose jackets and switch to a competing brand that are focused on technical performance using only synthetic materials.
Please stop supporting the killing and torture of Canada's wildlife
