This petition is being started in hopes that it will raise both awareness and funds for a rebuilding/renovation of the skatepark in the beautiful little town of Saguache, Colorado. On top of the funds already in place for state-funded outdoor recreation, funds will hopefully be donated by willing citizens of Saguache County as well as grant money that will be applied for in the very near future. The town currently has a skatepark that is mostly functional but could use some serious improvements for both safety and accessibility reasons. After starting the SLV Skateboarding group, I realized there were major accessibility issues for beginners here as well as some safety concerns. The park was established some time ago and was outfitted with metal, modular style ramps that could be considered potentially dangerous in some respects. Although the ramps in their current state are functional, they are outdated and need to be updated to fit the standards for skateparks nowadays. The ideal scenario would be to move the ramps out, donate or reuse them, and completely refinish the concrete foundation to remove all the cracks and heavy impact zones. The most efficient way to do this would be to hire a skatepark building company specifically to come out and work with the town to put in something new. Typically, these companies are very eager to work with local youth to decide what would be most desirable in the new park facility. They will have plenty of ideas that extend further beyond our own as they are professional builders that have built countless parks in Colorado already. They will also give us ideas for the most cost-effective route to take for this type of rebuilding. Please join me in working with the town to bring all of us within Saguache County and beyond a newly renovated, safer, and more functional outdoor skating area. Skateboarding is one of the cheapest and most accessible outdoor activities for children and adults and offers a great escape for kids while being a wonderful alternative to other unhealthy lifestyle behaviors. Skateboarding is also a form of art. It is a way to express oneself in a physical way that is unique to that specific individual. In a poverty-stricken area that is filled with creatives, I believe that it is of utmost importance to provide up to date areas to skateboard. If this petition goes through, we will be able to collectively show our support for a new skatepark in the town of Saguache!
