Dow Chemical Company is a company that produces and sells things such as chemicals, plastics, and agricultural products. Their headquarters are located in Midland, Michigan, which means that their activities affects the surrounding areas, including Midland, Saginaw, and Bay. Something called dioxins formed from a chlorine compound made by Dow. The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences states that dioxins are harmful chemicals created when there is improper disposal of chemicals. The dioxins built up in the soil and floodplains of nearby areas. Therefore, because Dow Chemical Company had dumped their waste, places such as the Tittabawassee and Saginaw Rivers as well as into the Saginaw Bay became polluted. Dioxins in soil and water not only affects the environment, it also affects the food chain through the animals eating off of the polluted soil and bodies and water. Moreover, dioxins can be traced to humans due to being too close to the dioxin-filled soil or by eating animals or dairy products that were contaminated through the dioxins.

This is a serious issue that could have been easily avoided had Dow Chemical properly disposed of their waste. Human and animal health could have not been negatively impacted had they followed protocol. Therefore, because of the horrifying impact on humans and the environment, Dow Chemical should be under legal obligation to regulate their practices; if anything harmful occurs, they should then be fined so that no one else gets hurt in the long run. By signing this petition, you can help save other people's health and the health of the environment!
