Sage Music, an award winning music school, needs your help to improve our neighborhood community, increase our security, provide space for more students, and create new jobs for local artists by supporting our school design. 

Our plans to enclose the side porch at 209 W Poplar St in Tobin Hill, and Individual Landmark Site will:

• improve our security by limiting building access, because we have children in the building and don't want two front doors
• provide more interior space for community, classes, and events
• maintain the historic character of the building
• do needed structural work to preserve the historic building
• increase the number of class rooms, and event space allowing us to provide 
  • jobs for 2-3 more teaching artists
  • education for 140 additional students
  • 1 new administrative job
  • 1 new events role

Here is a rendering of the proposed construction, which we believe is a beautiful, and historically appropriate plan. Everyone we have presented it to agrees.

Unfortunately, this amazing plan to improve our building and community was denied by the San Antonio Historic and Design Review Commission because they don't support enclosing the side porch.

We are back in front of the committee on Oct 19, 2022 with a clarified, revised plan,  and we need your support to help it pass. 

Here is how you can help:

1. Sign this petition.
2. Leave an enthusiastic voice message supporting our plan. Dial 210-206-HDRC(4372) by 12 noon on Oct 19. Comments must include your full name, home or work address, the item number 2022-486 and the address 209 W. Poplar St., San Antonio, TX 78212.
3. Show up in person to support us and make a 2 minute statement on October 19, 2022 at 3pm at 1901 S. Alamo St. 
4. Write a letter of support and email it to HistoricDesignReviewCommission@sanantonio.gov  by 12 noon on Oct 19. Comments must include your full name, home or work address, the item number 2022-486 and the address 209 W. Poplar St., San Antonio, TX 78212.

If we gain approval, construction will continue, we'll improve security -  especially for our children, provide better community events, and we'll gain additional classroom space to engage more students, and employ more great people. 

If we do not gain approval, we risk a less secure learning environment, layoffs due to reduced business capacity and other delays which put our school at risk.
