For at least the last decade, SAG-AFTRA has not taken an effective stand in support of background actors.

As background actors, we demand that the union start acting in backgriound actors' best interests.in the following ways:

1. Hold a strike authorization vote.  The previous leadership stated prior to the last round of contract negotiations that there would be no strike. This denied the rank and file MOST EFFECTIVE TOOL TO ENSURE MEANINGFUL NEGOTIATIONS.;

2. Increase the minimum number of union background actors to at least 40. Prior to the merger between SAG and AFTRA, EACH union required a minimum of 25 background actors.  After the merger took place, the minimum was kept at 25 and THERE HAS BEEN NO INCREASE IN THE BACKGROUND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS SINCE THE MERVER.,

3. Negotiate compensation for background actors that includes raises of either a dollar amount OR the prior year's rate of inlation plus five percent - whichever is greater.. OVER THE COURSE OF THE LAST SIX CONTRACTS, THE RATES PAID TO BACKGROUND ACTORS AVERAGED LESS THAN THREE PERCENT OVER INFLATION..
