Due to aggressive motorists, who fail to yield to pedestrians, local residents have great difficulty crossing at this intersection. Over the past few months, there have been many close calls - almost on a daily basis one can observe near- collisions between vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians. Wheelchair bound persons, who are difficult to see due to their lower profile, use this intersection daily. Moreover, there are many small children at the church nearby, who are also difficult to see when crossing.

Letter to
City Engineer of New Haven, Connecticut Richard H. Miller
Director, New Haven, Connecticut Department of Transportation, Traffic and Parking Jim Travers
We, citizens of New Haven, urge an improvement of the safety of the intersection of Temple & Wall Streets in Downtown New Haven, Connecticut.

We are thankful for the action taken by the City of New Have thus far and hope that it will take further action to continue to improve the intersection. We believe the following simple, low cost solutions could help prevent accidents and improve safety at the intersection of Temple and Wall Streets:
- Repainting the intersection and portions of the street (including crosswalks and the lanes leading up to the intersection)
- Install bollards along center lane divider to slow traffic flow
- Forbid parking closer than two car lengths from the intersection on both sides of the street
- Install planters that would (a) forbid individuals from parking close to the intersection, (b) provide protection for individuals crossing the street by shortening the crossing distance and (c) slowing the flow of traffic through the intersection

We are of aware of the lack of funding, and therefore think that the above solutions are the most cost effective solution.

If there was sufficient funding, we would request some of the following improvements to Temple Street:
- Red Hatched Crosswalk
- Bump Outs
- Push button crossing
- A Raised Intersection

We are looking forward to working with you to improve the safety of our city.
