Why this petition matters

Started by Andrea Miller

CCISD recently announced further loosening safety rules to limit the spread of COVID in our schools, but with the latest Omicron surge that is not a wise move. While we have been able to vaccinate our children ages 5+, many of us have unvaccinated children under the age of 5 and immune-compromised individuals at home. This petition is to urge CCISD board members to upgrade the COVID threat level in recognition of community spread and temporarily reinstate policies to limit the spread (limit visitors, distance seating during lunch, etc.). Further, we request that the board consider re-starting the remote conferencing tool so that students can quarantine without lost attendance. Additional encouragement in the form of daily reminders to students that wearing masks help keep our community safe and free masks are available for everyone would be helpful.
At present, local hospitals are nearing capacity and essential services are being hindered by the surge. The governor has requested additional tests and monoclonal antibody treatments from the federal government to handle the spread in Texas. It is incumbent upon us to take simple steps to limit the spread and care for our neighbors in this time - and given the history of this virus, such measures would certainly be temporary until the current surge is under control. We appreciate the consideration of the CCISD school board and superintendent in this matter, which affects our students, staff, and their families. Let’s do what it takes to keep schools open and love thy neighbor!
