Safe Housing for ALL Mullumbimby Residents
Why this petition matters
Safe Housing for ALL Mullumbimby Residents
We as concerned residents of Mullumbimby insist that the Northern Rivers Reconstruction Corporation(NRRC) and Byron Shire Council STOP WORK on the development between Prince and Station Streets, pending Hydrologists and Engineers Reports about the suitability of the site and the method of construction, so to not exacerbate future flooding events for existing and new dwellings in Mullumbimby.
This site is a known flood prone area, reaching over 1 metre in the February 2022 flood.
There has been no consultation, communication or consideration for the safety of both the pod residents AND the neighbouring residents in the event of another flood.
FILL on the site will impact houses, particularly on the Eastern side of the development, causing higher inundation of flood waters and the filling of flood plains.
There have been no Flood or Environmental Impact Studies undertaken for the development.
The current Evacuation Plan for the existing township of Mullumbimby is already inadequate, and with the increase of 180+ residents to be housed in the Pods, it leaves the situation dire.
There has been no Traffic Study done for the 90 plus extra vehicle movements which will impact Prince and Argyle Streets and Morrison Ave.
