Safe Harbor Humane Society's Board of Directors President, Bill Bohlmann and the Executive Director, Chandra Riberich, need to be replaced. Several community members have spoken to the board expressing their concerns about extreme staff turnover due to poor working conditions. The Board of Directors at Safe Harbor refuses to listen to the concerns presented to them with an open mind. For example, the Board of Directors refuses to investigate allegations of animal abandonment against Chandra, who directed an employee to "drop a cat off on the side of the road" in September of 2021. 

In the last several months, at least two families had dogs go through the Spay/Neuter clinic at Safe Harbor Humane Society and then ended up at local emergency clinics due to alleged mistakes made during the procedures. Safe Harbor claims no wrongdoing; however, the veterinarian is now gone for the foreseeable future. The public should know the circumstances of her abrupt exit before entrusting their animals to her.

In the last 2 years, six managers have left Safe Harbor. In their place, untrained, unqualified employees have been put in their places. Last week, the foster coordinator gave advice to only feed two week old kittens baby food, no formula. This advice would lead to the slow death of a kitten due to nutritional deficiency.

If you sign this petition, you are asking for a change in leadership. We are not trying to harm the shelter or its programs in any way. We are simply asking for new direction for Safe Harbor Humane Society in the form of a new, fresh perspective from a new Board and Director. The shelter WILL NOT IMPROVE until Bill and Chandra are removed.
