Active travellers share 3.5 miles of single carriageway with fast cars and HGVs. Lacking paths, verges, or signs to help drivers allow for pedestrians and cycles, let alone separate space, the main road is frightening and off-putting, as well as dangerous. It is stressful for drivers, too.

Commuters, teenagers, shoppers, bus-users – so many local people make their regular journeys on foot and bicycle along this direct, level, long-established route, besides dozens of leisure and sports cyclists and walkers. All take their lives in their hands.

Many others want to leave our cars to do this short journey in a healthier, cleaner mode.

We call on the authorities to take practical measures, not just words, to support walkers, cyclists and mobility aid users with:

  • permanent, well-maintained safe active travel along this direct route, and
  •  immediate improvements to enable us all to share our common road in safety and peace of mind
