Low risk prisoners in Cat D establishments who have previously accessed home leave should be entitled to home release as they have been trusted into society before as well as helping lower the pressure of prison officers in terms of dealing with the ongoing situation with Covid 19. Prisoners who have 4 months remaining should be able to return gone and placed on home detention curfew until there release, this will save tax payers money as this is a cheaper alternative than leaving them in an open prison in which they are able to do similar things as they would at home with more restrictions. Releasing low risk prisoners will help control the spread of the virus as well as reducing the risk of spreading it. Cat D prisoners are entitled to work out of prison and many of us are unaware that prisoners in these establishments are still currently working out of the prison in jobs such as warehouses or food outlets. If they are able to work out during this pandemic then why should they not be allowed to come home with a few months to spare to avoid getting the virus. Already 65 inmates across the nation have got coronavirus with 2 deaths confirmed due to it.
