Covid-19 has negatively impacted all students and our ability to focus and stay motivated to learn, attend online lectures, complete assignments. The rapid changes of doing things virtually has been a real shock for everyone to get used to. Staying at home, being cut off from having a social life, being isolated and in constant fear has affected students, teachers, and families.

The number of deaths in the UK have also led to many heartaches and grief within families which will obviously affect students grades and their overall mental state as they have to deal with a loss of a loved one. Some students are also parents thus having to manage studying and taking care of their children (who are no longer going to school) is making is difficult for them to manage and focus on their university work. I believe there should be either less assignments / an amendment on the module assessments for uni students OR examiners should be more lenient when grading students due to the conditions we are currently in.

Many students have complained how they struggling to stay focused, or even get out of bed because of their low moods due to the pandemic which affected their ability to even begin their work hence why the education department should be more leniant when grading and work on minimising the amount of work students have been bombarded with during difficult times.

Secondly, since the last academic year there have been a number of strikes which  cancelled classes, making it difficult for students to finish assignments as they were unable to get get the right information they needed from their lecturers since their lecturers were not only not teaching but also stopped responding to emails as well because some of them were were on holiday due to choosing to be on strike. Furthermore in this academic year the pandemic caused a huge disruption to education for uni students, where students were unable to get the most out of their education fee hence why I believe students should be repaid the fee for both academic years as compensation for the lack of support, instant face-to-face help and guidance with assignments students were faced in both academic years.

Many will agree that working from home is not as efficient as face-to-face  as it is very difficult to get a response back from different departments and specific people through email, thus students are having to wait weeks just for a response which may be answered too late.

Due to these reasons, I believe universities should make adjustments to module assessments or examiners should be very leniant with marking work. Secondly, I believe students should be refunded their fee for the academic year 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 as good will and as compensation for all the cancelled lectures, and disruptions the strikes, and the pandemic had caused.
