With your help, we are trying to gauge Public support so that the centre is restored to its original state and for the course to be made available again to Public and members.

Let me explain the story so far:

The centre was closed down on October 2019, very suddenly and without any dialogue or notification which made everything think who was connected to the club that there was something fishy going on.  The golf centre was bought by 3 gentlemen (developers) who had promised to keep the course and only build 9 flats (pls check planning online for the property) but to take the range away. However, a week before the handover of ownership the new owners decided to change their mind and close the whole centre without any communication to staff or their customers for the last 25 years. The centre being closed has left a huge void in the community and has had a negative effect on the area. All age groups, genders, races used the centre, the fact that Harrow council allowed this also needs to be questioned? And why was the community not consulted or made aware that the centre was closing? Why was everything so secret?

The point about the fire is that we all believe it was deliberately burnt down. I have also heard they now want to build a banqueting hall and not flats, that’s very convenient? Also to add, a friend was walking pass the course 3 weeks ago and decided to check out the course and what has happened. He was confronted by a 24-hour security guard who informed him that the premises is manned 24 hours a day and he should go away. Naturally, this would have been detected early on by the security team and fire and damage minimized but this doesn’t seem to be the case.

If there was any way of getting this supported by local councillors and other sports groups/golf England etc that would be great.  We would really love to have the centre back in the community and we can all go back to enjoying the game. The centre itself did require investment and did need fresh new ownership but unfortunately, the old owner ran the place down and made no investment. We are very sure that with the right management and structure, the centre would be sustainable and would thrive. Please help us get some clarity into the matter and help us investigate and make sure the police have all the facts.

Our recommendations:

A possible interview with the old owners of they can shed light on discussions made by new owners of converting into flats etc.

It would be worth to quiz or interview the owners into their plans going forward and if the course will be restored? If their intention is uncertain or not to them that’s a brownie point to add to the article.

It would be worth examining and to ascertain if Golf course has CCTV coverage to see who was at the premise last and at what time/date. If no CCTV can be obtained then could it have it been intentionally destroyed?

PLEASE SHARE AND GET OUR COURSE BACK FOR THE COMMUNITY
