The Garden Bridge on London's South Bank was a terrible idea. An extra bridge was not needed there. The bridge was hugely expensive, would wipe out the celebrated river view from Waterloo, would have very limited public access and would cost over £3m a year to maintain. It would have meant felling 38 mature trees and building a big end block on public green space. Some very questionable deals were made to put the project together. Worst of all, it has already spent £37m of public funds - with nothing to show for it. London Mayor Sadiq Khan has finally pulled the plug on this disaster. Let's get that money back!
